The Yunung Bush Tucker Community Garden project was established in 2009 with the assistance of a grant from the Hunter Area Assistance Scheme and permission from Lake Macquarie City Council to use a 3000 square meter block of land on the site of 143 Dora Street, adjacent to the Morisset Multi Purpose Centre.
In partnership with Landcare, Southlake Community Services’ objective in establishing a community gardenĀ for the use of community members is to increase the level of cooperation and interaction across all community groups.
The garden provides:
* opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds to participate in volunteer programs
* opportunities for the Aboriginal and broader community to learn more about the indigenous culture through the native food garden
* opportunities for hands-on training, skill development and employment in industries relating to horticulture particularly among the target groups of Youth, Men, Mental Health and AOD clients.
