Here’s ‘What’s happening’ in brief!

AUGUST-

5th – “Triple P Parenting (Positive Parenting)”- Series of 3 free seminars 7-9pm. In partnership with Wesley and CALM. Bookings Essential. Sorry no childcare.

9th & 10th – “Working in MS Word” Computer course 10am-1pm $10 bookings essential.

10th– “ Rhyme Time” Early literacy program for 0-5 year olds at Bonnells Bay Y&CC. 11amEvery Tuesday during school term, Free & includes a gift.

11th & 18th – “Budgeting– the Nuts & Bolts”. A series of 2 free sessions presented by Lifeline Financial Counselling. 10am-1pm.

17th— “Mobile phones for Beginners” Learn how to get the best from your phones functions 10-12pm. Cost $5

30th- “Event Planning” workshop in partnership with LMCC and Morisset Sustainable Neighbourhood. A free workshop to help you to plan, implement and evaluate your next event.

SEPTEMBER-

3rd- “Follow your Dreams– you can publish a book!” A valuable discussion with local authors including a book Launch for Geoffrey Turners first published book. 10am, Morning tea provided.

7th- “First Tuesday Chat Club” at Bonnells Bay Y&CC. A welcome to the peninsula coffee and chat, 10am.

7th- “Tenancy” information session. Presented by Hunter Tenants Advisory Service. Free 10-12 for anyone renting or about to start renting.

8th- “Face book”- What’s the rage and how do I use this social networking Site? AS hands on course from 10am-1, cost $5

13th & 14th- “Basic Computer Skills” course 10am to 1pm, cost $10

13th- “Sandwich Creators”- a 3 week fun course, where the kids will get involved in week 3. This hands on group will look at making varied and healthy lunchbox’s, 12-2 includes lunch. Cost $40 for supplies payable prior to course.

20th & 21st- “Internet for beginners” course 1-3pm, cost $10

25th-“What would Granddad Do; Fixing Bikes” hands on workshop 1.30-3.30pm (Bring a bike). Presented by Morisset Sustainable Neighborhood.

OCTOBER

5th- “First Tuesday Chat Club” at Bonnells Bay Y&CC. A welcome to the peninsula coffee and chat, 10am.

11th &12th– “Working with MS Word”

15th– Over Mental Health Month we are holding a Mental Health First Aid course 4 sessions for $50 *, 10-1pm.

19th– 22; Blood Donor Mobile visit.

TBA- “What would Nan do; preserving” workshop. Presented by Morisset Sustainable Neighborhoods. This free hands on workshop will show you how to preserve fruit and vegetables straight from your garden. Includes lunch.

TBA– Woman’s Empowerment Workshop- “Self Esteem Strategies” & “Mandela’s”. Presented by Hunter Women’s Centre

20th July- NEW Rhyme Time starts tomorrow at Bonnells Bay Youth & Community Centre. This is a brand new early literacy program for children aged 0-5years and their parents in partnership with Wesley Family Services. Rhyme time will be held each Tuesday @11am during school term and is free. Each child will be given a free nursery rhyme pack so they can practice at home too!

20th July- Autism Spectrum Disorder support group meet at 7-9pm

22nd July- Senior First Aid Certificate provided by the First Aid Training company $120. Unfortunately this course is full, however a waiting list has been developed.

23rd July- “Beat the Bully; an anti bullying workshop for parents of children aged 5-12 years who are being bullied”. This workshop aims to teach parents how to recognise symptoms of bullying in your child, how to develop your child’s resilience and how to engage schools, authorities and the community for support. The session will be held from 12.30- 2.30pm at Morisset Multipurpose Centre at a small cost of $5. Places are limited- book now on 49737000 !!

27th July- “are you Rent Ready?” This is a free information session provided by Hunter Tenants Advice and Advocacy Service (HTAAS). The session is for anyone looking for or new to rental accommodation. HTAAS will give you a brief understanding of tenancy law in NSW, tips for starting a tenancy, up front costs, condition reports and accessing rent assistance. Other information includes share housing, rent increases, rent arrears and repair requirements. This free session will be held at Morisset Multipurpose Centre 10am- 12 and bookings are essential on 49737000.

29th July- “Being a Grandparent” interrelate family centres presents this interactive session for grandparents. The session focuses on the needs and changing role of grandparents and connecting better with their grandchildren. Being a Grandparent will be held at Morisset Multipurpose Centre 11am to 2pm and includes a light lunch and child care (bookings essential). A cost of $10 applies.

August programs include a Communication & Assertiveness course for women, Budgeting workshops, Triple P (positive parenting evening session) and Mobile phones for beginners to name a few!

Tax Help has also commenced, thanks to our wonderful tax help volunteers. If you earn less than $40,000 per year, volunteers can help you complete your fairly straight forward tax return. Tax Help is a free and confidential service by Appointment only- please call 49737000 to make an appointment.
